Iran: Statements of support on relocation of PMOI from Camp Liberty in Iraq and a major political victory for the People's Mojahedin of Iran
Successful resettlement of Camp Liberty, a vital step
On Friday September 9, the last
280 members of the exiled Iranian opposition group, the People's MojahedinOrganization of Iran (PMOI or MeK) in Camp Liberty, left Iraq safely for
Europe.
14 years of heroic resistance and countless international efforts by
thousands of political dignitaries and parliamentarians all over the globe, for
security and protection of the residents of Camp Liberty resulted in a
victorious resettlement that enjoyed international congratulations.
sCamp Liberty hosted approximately 3,000 Iranian political
refugees who are the symbol of hope and courage to young people in Iran.
The fundamentalist regime, ruling in Iran
provided extensive financial and military support for the terrorist groups in
Iraq to annihilate its alternative resulting in 5 missile attacks against the
innocent residents of the camp. Such assaults left 141 dead, over 1000 wounded.
In addition to terrorist attacks the residents suffered inhumane siege over the
camp by banding fuel, food, medical aids and essential protective equipment
such as T-walls inside in to the camp.
The resettlement of the camp received joyful
welcomes from dignitaries, US congressional leaders, UN secretary general, and
lawmakers of European countries, they shared the happiness of the
Iranian people and the resistance in blockading the Mullah regime's plans
against the lives of residents and congratulated Mrs Maryam Rajavi, the
president elect of Iranian resistance for the safe relocation of the
residents.
US Senator John McCain (R-AZ) said: "I
continue to stand with the people of Iran and the Iranian-American community
who yearn for a free Iran. The safe resettlement of these Iranian dissidents is
a vital step in countering the Iranian regime's malign influence in the region.
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen wrote in her
tweet, "Glad to hear the good news that all MEK residents from Camp
Liberty have been transferred safely to out of Iraq and away from Iranian
threats."
Explanation
After the news of the
successful relocation of members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s
Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) from Camp Liberty in Iraq to Albania, many prominent political personalities,
lawmakers and Parliamentary groups from around the world have issued statements
and messages of support.
